Stop Giving People the Keys to Your House: The Real Cost of Lack of Security

Imagine giving out keys to your house to people you barely know. Some might come and go without issue. Others might rearrange things, take up space, or even walk off with something valuable without you noticing.

Spiritually, the same thing happens when you let too many people, energies, or influences into your inner world without boundaries.

Spiritual boundaries are the energetic limits that keep you connected to yourself. They protect your soul, your focus, and your clarity. If you’re sensitive, intuitive, or spiritually open, they are essential. Without them, your energy becomes vulnerable to everything around you.

When your boundaries are weak or unclear, you start to carry emotions and thoughts that aren’t yours. You might feel responsible for fixing other people, say yes when you mean no, or absorb the heaviness in a room before you even know what hit you. Over time, this pulls you away from your own power, and away from your center.

Sometimes what we call “being drained” or “off” is actually a sign that your energetic field is too open. If you’re highly sensitive, empathic, or doing spiritual work, it’s easy to absorb more than you realize.

Here are a few things to notice:

  • You often feel tired or off-center after being around certain people or environments

  • You find yourself overexplaining, people-pleasing, or taking on others’ emotional weight

  • You feel foggy, distracted, or suddenly low after conversations or social media scrolling

  • Your spiritual practice feels inconsistent or less grounded

  • You have a hard time knowing what you feel versus what others are feeling

These things can also have mental, emotional, or physical roots. But in spiritual work, they can be signs that your boundaries need reinforcement or care. It’s not always about cutting people off—it’s often about coming back to yourself.

How I Protect My Spiritual Space

These are the things I come back to again and again to stay clear, strong, and protected:

Prayer or intention-setting
I start the day by calling in protection and clarity. You can say it out loud or quietly. What matters is your focus.

Crystals
I keep black tourmaline or obsidian near me when I feel exposed. Amethyst helps too when I need clarity.

Egg cleanses and energy clearing
Using eggs, smoke, salt baths, or simple breathwork can release stuck energy or influence from others.

Visualization (my favorite)
One of my go-to practices is sitting down, breathing deeply, and imagining a bright white light surrounding me completely. Sometimes I imagine it as a barrel or a forcefield. It calms my system and strengthens my field.

Sigils and protection emblems
I keep certain symbols on my altar or near my door. These hold personal meaning and remind me that I am protected and grounded in my own truth.

Silence and solitude
Sometimes the most powerful protection is choosing not to respond, not to engage, and not to explain.

Think of Your Energy Like a Home

You wouldn’t leave your front door open all night. So why let just anyone into your spiritual field? Boundaries are not about being cold or closed. They are about honoring your space. You get to choose who enters and under what conditions.

Final Thoughts

Your spiritual energy is sacred. Treat it that way. Protect it with intention. Cleanse it when needed. And be honest about who gets to share space with you. Not everyone should have a key. Not everyone deserves access.

If this speaks to you, maybe it is time to check the locks! If you are ready to create stronger boundaries, reconnect with yourself, and move forward with clarity, my spiritual coaching is here to support you.
